There are several different fighting styles used by characters on Time merge which determine their battle strengths and weaknesses. Following is the list of styles and their effects:
Also note that some techniques are of a mixed style, for example Hand-to-Hand/ranged or ranged/psychological. In this case, a S-rank forbid-techs would be impossible to meet the requirements for. However, you can still learn this technique if your two styles are the same as the technique's, i.e. you would still be able to learn a S-rank HtH/Rng forbid-techs if you have Hand-to-Hand and Ranged for fighting styles, regardless of which one is higher (although one of them must be your major or specialty).
All characters are allowed to switch their fighting styles once, though there needs to be a good reason for it. Keep in mind, if you change styles, you do not get to replace any techniques that you may loose.
Also, a special Style point will be awarded to SS Ranks and again at SSS rank as a specialized 4 forbid-tech Point training. Allowing them 2 Points. This special training can also be given out to members who deserve it based on their merits on RP or as a special prize in Tourneys or Raffles and the such. This will allow either a second specialization or a major. The trade off is, that you become more susceptible to other styles if you take a Second Specialization. So be wary and make good decisions.
- Hand-to-Hand - this style represents melee combat, whether unarmed or utilizing weapons. Higher skill in this style means better strength and speed in battle. While one untrained in this style loses almost insignificantly to a minor user, the skill gap between the same person and a major user is more noticeable and quite severe with a specialist.
- One without this style can only learn Hand-to-Hand moves up to B rank and no forbid-techs
- One with hand-to-hand as secondary style can learn Hand-to-Hand up to A rank or B rank forbid-techs
- One with hand-to-hand as primary style can learn Hand-to-Hand up to S rank or A rank forbid-techs(Can not Learn S Rank forbid-techs)
- A hand-to-hand specialist is not limited in learning Hand-to-Hand techniques
